Canada 2025 - Hiking, Mountains and Dinosaurs Day 1

As you can see from our new trip title, we are off on another adventure. BIG hikes. BIG mountains. And BIG dinosaurs. All to be found near Alberta Canada. And all in celebration of our BIG 40th anniversary.

The plan is to spend 3 days in Banff National Park hiking around Lake Moraine and Lake Louise. Then drive up through part of Jasper National Park and then head to Drumheller, a famous area for dinosaur fossils.

Today was mostly travel. We had an 8:45am flight which arrived in Calgary around 11am, picked up our rental car and headed to Banff.  There we eschewed the touristy Banff Gondola and instead went up the chair lift at Norquay, a ski resort just north of Banff, but which overlooks Banff. It was pouring rain when we arrived at the lift, but the weather cleared up for about an hour or so.  Plenty of time to take the chair lift up for a beautiful view of the valley and surrounding mountains.

We then headed to the village of Lake Louise where we checked into our hotel before heading out to get the all important Bear Spray. Just in case we run into any BIG BEARS when hiking. It's unlikely, since most of the trails we plan to hike are quite popular and crowded enough bears stay away. We also picked up supplies for our lunch tomorrow before heading off to dinner.

Our trip coincided with Ian (our son) and Anna taking our grandson, Raymond, east  to Maine. This means we weren’t needed as babysitters for a week. We were happy to be sent a couple shots of Ray enjoying his first plane trip. Someday you might read a blog written by Rambling Ray.
